This business wasn’t in trouble. Work was coming in, revenue looked fine, and everything was being lodged on time. But behind the scenes, it didn’t feel under control.
There was no real confidence in the numbers, cash flow didn’t match how busy the business was, and key obligations like tax and repayments weren’t being factored into day-to-day decisions. On paper it looked fine, but in reality, money was going out faster than it was coming in.
We stepped back and worked through the full financial picture.
Instead of relying on a basic view of profit, we mapped out how the business actually operated, cash flow, commitments, and timing of payments, so it was clear what was really happening. We then put simple structure around how this was tracked and managed going forward.
From there, decisions changed. Spending was brought back in line, obligations were accounted for, and the business stopped running short on cash.

This client was underpricing their work. Costs were increasing, but prices weren’t moving because it felt too risky. The concern was that increasing prices would push them out of the market.
As a result, the business was busy, but not generating the level of profit it should have been. We stepped back and reviewed the business as a whole. We worked through where profit was actually being made, where it wasn’t, and how pricing, costs, and workload were interacting.
From there, we modelled what would happen if prices increased, including the impact of losing some work. It became clear that even with fewer clients, the business would be more profitable.
Prices were increased, some work dropped off, but overall profitability improved and the business was no longer relying on volume to stay viable.

This business owner wanted to step away, but everything depended on them. They were the main point of contact, key information sat with them, and much of the business was run through paper-based processes. No one had been trained to take over, and there was no structure to support a transition.
We worked through where the reliance sat and why. We mapped out how the business operated, what needed to be handed over, and what structure was missing to
support it. From there, we moved key processes out of paper and into systems, structured how information was managed, and worked with the team to build capability so responsibility didn’t sit with one person.
We supported the handover of knowledge and decision making over time, allowing the business to operate independently. The business is no longer reliant on the owner, and stepping away is now possible.
